Plays: screen, stage & radio

From 2008/9 I spent 12+ months writing an adaptation of my novel Falling Glass as a feature film. In 2010 I entered it in the Dungog Film Festival’s In The Raw competition, which is now regularly run in tandem with Sydney Theatre Company. No luck there… perhaps it’s on a shelf somewhere?

In Jan 2012 I entered an extract of my screenplay in the Australian Film Festival’s screenwriting competition for 15 minutes of performance writing.

Inspired by my success with one-act plays broadcast on ABC RN and stage performances of both The Burial and Menace,  I adapted my short story Hard Grain as a half hour stage & radio play. I haven’t pursued this yet, but when I heard about the above 15 minutes screenwriting comp, I worked to cut it in half… not so easy to do, but I’ve had years of practice with being ruthless about my own work. Slash and burn.

The Midnight Pianist is entered in a national unpublished novel competition, and I’ve sent a couple of short stories to an international comp.

So much of writing, or anything in the arts for that matter, is wait and see…
